Hours after losing their match to Scotland, the Aussie women’s wheelchair basketball team knew they hadn’t played their best basketball. The team had missed a chance to fight for gold, but still had a chance to win a medal.
Determined to fight hard, the women’s team prevailed in a nail-biting clash with Canada to claim bronze. Australia’s Georgia Munro-Cook embraced and high-fived her teammates, a beaming smile on her face, after her shot sealed the 19-17 victory.
The scoreboard see-sawed all evening, as both teams stayed within two points of each other. Increased physicality and pressure were also on display, with a Canada player falling out of her chair at one point.
That’s one basketball medal match, and three to come – will it be silver or gold for the rest of Australia’s teams?
