Commonwealth Games LIVE: Australia’s gymnastics gold rush; Peter Bol to risk all in chasing 800m glory

Two Australian lightweight boxers are guaranteed Commonwealth Games bronze medals – at least – after surviving tough quarter-final bouts on Tuesday in Glasgow.

Not long after Queenslander Jye Dixon, on debut at these Games, fought his way through to the final four in the men’s 55kg class, Melbourne teenager Jacob Cassar did likewise in the men’s 65kg division.

For 19-year-old Cassar, he was left smiling after a hard-fought bout against 20-year-old Canadian Gabriel Labrie.

Dixon, 21, slugged it out with his older opponent, Md Rakib Hossain from Bangladesh.

A bantamweight fighter, Dixon showed his superiority and better foot movement in the win that elevated him to the final four. All losing semi-finalist get bronze medals.

Earlier, Amadu Mohammed of Ghana easily won his quarter-final bout against Ellis Trowbridge in the same weight class as Dixon.
